$31,500 in Classroom and Program Grants Awarded

At a reception on October 27, 2011, the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley awarded 59 grants totaling $31,500 to individual classroom teachers and educational programs throughout the school district. The awards support a wide range of academic needs including the development of basic literacy skills to more advanced language arts enrichment, hands-on science projects and experimentation, field trips, guest speakers, parent involvement activities and anti-bullying curriculum.

Forty-one percent of the grants awarded included some type of technology component including document cameras and projectors, camcorders, iPods for listening centers and smart carts. Seventeen (17) elementary schools, 12 middle and high schools, and 3 community organizations shared in the grant funding. Information on the specific grant awarded can be found below.

Genesee Mullen, a preschool Special Education teacher at Spangler Elementary, expressed the feelings of many of the grant recipients after receiving funds to create a family literacy night: Thank you all for everything you do! Our students are lucky to have such a wonderful group behind them!

Susan Blanchard, MESA advisor and 6th grade science teacher at Erie Middle School, added: Thanks so much for the money to go on our field trip to the Denver Museum of Science and Nature. It would not be possible without the grant and many of our students would never get the chance to go without your generous help!

Janet Morrison, a 4th grade teacher at Indian Peaks Elementary, after receiving grant money for books to build her English literacy take-home library wrote: I'm so excited to tell my students and ask them what books we should order. Thank you, thank you!!!

Special thanks go to all of the individuals, organizations and businesses in the community that make these grants possible. Information on the specific grant awarded can be found below.
