Crayons to Calculators
The cost of school supplies is a financial burden for parents of over 5,000 students in St. Vrain Valley. Crayons to Calculators is a community wide school supply drive for students in need. Every June – July EFSVV partners with other area non-profits to rally businesses, volunteer groups, students and community members to ensure that every student in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley schools has the supplies they need to start the school year off right.
Volunteers are the backbone of this program and there are a lot of ways to help. Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, religious groups, corporate groups, civic service organizations, and interested community members are encouraged to get involved with this annual drive. For 2017, the primary backpack stuffing and delivery dates will occur the last three weeks in July at the Main Street School in Longmont.
Seeking volunteers to…
- sort and organize supplies
- pack the backpacks according to grade level
- load and transport the backpacks to schools for distribution to needy students.
We couldn’t do it without the widespread support of our community!
Thousands of backpacks are provided to students in need in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley schools each year.
- 4,800 in 2008, our inaugural year with Crayons to Calculators
- Up to 7,100 by 2010
- Increasing to 8,100 in 2012
- Up to 9,200 in 2013
- Reaching 10,000 in 2015
What an amazing impact this has on our students. One backpack recipient summed it up very well:
“Thank you a million times!!!!!!! The girls will be ecstatic…it’s really beyond their best dreams to have nice supplies for school.”
