2012 BRAVO AWARDS

The 2012 BRAVO AWARDS were presented to Western Disposal and the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union on May 4th at the Tribute to Teachers for their exceptional contributions to the St. Vrain Valley School District.

 
Student Scholarships Awarded

At the April 24th Board of Directors meeting, the Education Foundation awarded $7,000 in scholarships to nine exceptional District students.

2011 Student Scholarship Recipients

Donna Bower Education Scholarship: 

The Donna Bower Educational Scholarship was awarded to Dylan Hensley, Silver Creek High School.  Donna Bower presented this scholarship and remarked on Dylan's focus to overcome learning issues through middle school that resulted from a head injury at age 4.  He is planning to attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. 

 

Director's Scholarship:

The Director's Scholarship was awarded to Kelly Herbst, Lyons High School.  Foundation Director Claudia Maciuk presented the first-ever Director's Scholarship.  Kelley was selected out of all the applications received by the Foundation because of her excellent 4.2 GPA and ACT score of 31 and her ability to overcome personal and family issues with great success.  Kelly is planning to attend Clark University in Boston, MA. 

 

Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship:

The Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarships were awarded to Natalie Boldt, Skyline High School and to Annick Pearson, Niwot High School.  Foundation Director Eva Gaudio presented both of these scholarships which focus on community service.  Natalie has over 500 hours of service including school and community activities with particular emphasis on the care and treatment of abused horses.  Annick is involved in volunteer activities (over 400 hours) associated with her church.  She not only worked as a volunteer barista but also participated in several mission trips.  Natalie will be attending the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO and Annick is planning to go to the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, CO. 

 

Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics:

The Michael Thomas Hoge Scholarship for Mathematics was awarded to Ben Chrysler, Longmont High School.  Executive Director Kathy Hall presented this scholarship and remarked on Ben's "thirst for knowledge" and "strong work ethic."  She also noted that he has been active in sports and has been awarded Eagle Scout designation while attaining a 4.3 GPA.

 

Scott Meade Art Scholarship: 

The Scott Meade Art Scholarship was awarded to Heather Kegel, Longmont High School.  Heather was enthusiastically recommended for this scholarship by the Art Department at LHS.  She is an excellent art student with an overall GPA of 4.3.  She is on the yearbook staff and a member of the National Art Honor Society.  Her letter of recommendation indicted that in addition to focus on art she "has demonstrated outstanding leadership and maintained a clear sense of purpose."  Heather is planning to attend the University of Denver to become an art teacher. Foundation Director Steve Payne presented this scholarship and called on Heather's art teacher, Mike Merz, to say a few words.
