$31,800 in Classroom and Program Grants Awarded

Longmont, CO – November 13, 2009 – The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley is very pleased to announce that it has awarded 76 grants totaling $31,800 to individual classroom teachers and educational programs throughout the school district.   The awards support a wide range of academic needs including the development of basic literacy skills to more advanced language arts enrichment, hands-on science projects and experimentation, field trips, guest speakers and parent involvement activities.  Nineteen (19) elementary schools, 10 middle and high schools, 1 district-wide support program and 7 community organizations shared in the grant funding.

“It is wonderful to be able to support so many excellent projects and programs that focus directly on the academic needs of our students.  This fall we received 60% more requests for funding than last year and were only able to fund 40% of the dollars requested.  Investing in our teachers and students is particularly important at this time which made the grant selection process even more difficult than usual.” says Lois Blackwood, chair of this year’s grant review committee.

Special thanks go to all of the individuals, organizations and businesses in the community that make these grants possible.
